Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part 2 is leading the nominations for this year’s BAFTA Game Awards. The post-apocalyptic title is up for 13 of the show’s 17 categories, the highest that a single game has been nominated for so far. Last year, both Control and Death Stranding from Kojima Productions were down for 11 awards at the show. That The Last of Us Part 2 is wildly acclaimed is no secret; when it launched it was met with overwhelming praise from critics and has won more game of the year awards than any other release yet....

Customers across the pond can get the controller for a marginally less impressive discount of £10. Released on the 20th November, the new controller boasts a USB-C port, a dedicated ‘share’ button, an inverted D-Pad, and a smaller, more ergonomic design. The biggest draw is probably the cross-compatibility: it can connect not only to the Xbox Series X and S, but also the Xbox One and PC. Android and iPhone support are, according to Microsoft, ‘in the future’, though how soon that future will arrive is anyone’s guess....

The new title is apparently called Assassin’s Creed Rift. As previously reported, it’s going to star Basim, the character from Vlahalla. Where things get interesting, however, is the game’s setting. Earlier this week, YouTuber ACG shared on Twitter that Rift is going to be set in the Aztec era. The claim was picked up by Reddit, where Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier chimed in to shoot down that rumour. According to Schreier, the game will be set in Baghdad - though he did not specify the time period....

Players will be able to get a taste of what The Quarry features and how it plays out with the new free trial, although, it is yet to be shared how long this trial actually is. If we had to hazard a guess, we’d assume that you get to play through an hour or so of the game before being expected to purchase it. CD Projekt acquired the rights to the entirety of The Witcher series from creator Andrzej Sapkowski before creating the first game to carry the same name. At the time, Sapkowski signed the deal for a fee, but not royalties. The Virtuous Cycle is upcoming DLC for the souls-like game Mortal Shell. Information on the DLC was not provided, as Cold Symmetry just saw fit to release a teaser trailer, but it looks like it is going to be rather dark. Watch it for yourself above courtesy of IGN. Respawn Entertainment’s Drew McCoy, who left the studio earlier this year, has teamed with another ex-Respawn developer - Jon Shiring - to form a new independent studio they named Gravity Well. Gravity Well aims to work on AAA games while remaining relatively small. Shiring believes that teams above 100 developers run into creative problems and lose their agility. The aim with Gravity Well is to keep the headcount to “80-85 people at peak,” which should make it easier to communicate and iterate....
